Sunflower Lanyard Program
Sacramento International Airport participates in the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Program, an initiative that helps travelers with non-visible disabilities discreetly signal that they may need extra time, patience, or assistance while navigating the airport. Individuals may choose to wear a sunflower lanyard or pin, which alerts airport staff that the wearer, or someone in their travel party, may benefit from additional support. The program is voluntary, free to participate in, and does not require travelers to disclose medical information or provide documentation.
At SMF, travelers can request sunflower lanyards or pins from Airport Ambassadors at the information desks located in each baggage claim, from Landside Operations staff and Lost & Found staff, or from volunteers wearing a red vest or polo shirt marked “Volunteer.” These team members can answer questions about the program and provide materials upon request. Travelers may also request support materials in advance by emailing Air-SMFLostAndFound@saccounty.gov or calling 916-874-0371.
